Intuition Is the Best Medicine

Posted by Amina AlTai on

Over the course of the last decade I've grown my body to a much healthier and happier place.  In this time, I've dealt with celiac disease, a thyroid condition, chronic iron deficiency anemia, hair loss, weight loss, weight gain, bacterial infections—you name it, I've encountered it.  And I'm so grateful for it, because all I've learned I am able to share.  Though I've worked with some of the worlds most amazing healers—and I mean AMAZING—there is no substitute for your own intuition.

Moreover, WE are the only ones in our bodies 24 hours a day.  A doctor's consult might last 20 minutes so it's impossible for them to take away the messages we get all day long.  And though modern medicine (and healers) are marvels, our own bodies usually know what we need best.  We just have to listen and in our crazy, fast-paced world, that's usually the hardest part.  Here's how I tune in to hear what my body really needs:

1. Get still:  When we are constantly on the go, or keeping our minds busy, it's impossible to tap into our true selves.  If I have a question to ask myself, that my busy brain can't solve, I always start by getting still.  Sometimes I even light a candle and start to do some breathing exercises.

2. Get quiet: Getting quiet through meditation works for me every time.  Meditations come in many forms but in the process of altering our awareness and our attention, we can hear our bodies communicate with us in new ways.  In doing a mindfulness meditation, you might become aware of sensations in your body that you hadn't otherwise felt.  Those are all messages.  Take note where you feel energy, where you feel pain—where you feel anything really.  Meditation alone might not give you the answer, but it's giving you the space to receive messages.

3. Free write: Sometimes, we'll emerge from our meditation crystal clean, but sometimes we need a bit more help.  I had a client who was complaining of digestive upset for years.  She'd changed her diet, she'd changed her supplements, she was managing her stress but nothing was helping.  So, I shared this exercise with her.  And when she sat on her meditation cushion, she got some very real messages from her core—her power center.  Strong feelings and visuals were coming up for her around people feeding on her power which she further delved into in her free writing exercise.  She even alluded to "parasitic" relationships in her life.  Once I saw that, I asked her what she thought it might mean for her body, and she immediately said "I have parasites."  And you know what?  She was right.

4. Get support: When an issue arises like it did with my client, I always encourage people to check in.  Ask your health care provide, GP, healers etc if they see what you are feeling.  Then, together you can work on the appropriate plan for your care.  And TOGETHER is a very important word.  Whatever protocol is outlined for you, be sure it feels right for you.  And that might mean a bit more time on the meditation cushion to be sure.

How do you tap into your intuition to heal yourself?!  We'd love to hear.
